New for January/February 2015!

[twocol_one]Kannada:

English:

What if one is sitting on top of the mountain, with the hair tied into a braid on top of the head,
the ant hill grown around and a snake wound around, Sir!
Like a stone eroded over all the four Eras (kRuta, trEta, dvApara and kali)!
Those who do not accept everything as blessing from our kUdalasangama’s devotees,
no matter how long they live, they surely will succumb to death![/twocol_one]

[twocol_one_last]Commentary:

Our great books have innumerable stories of individuals in pursuit of the Divine subjecting themselves to lot of hardship. They give up their worldly activities and sit on top of mountains or secluded places. They remain so still that the ant hill grows around their bodies and eventually a serpent occupies the ant hill and surrounds their body. The story normally ends with the Divine appearing eventually and offering the Boone the seeker wanted. Basavanna might have come across individuals subjecting themselves to such hardship. He says that subjecting the body to such hardship does not take one close to the Divine. One has to be in the world created by Him for us. One has to gain the awareness of what the world is about and realize that it is a blessing from Him. One has to realize that everything one does is His work and it is for Him. When such awareness strikes, one has seen the Divine. In the absence of such awareness, one is like a stone exposed to the weather for ages, yet remains a stone.

Once again, this Vachana drives home the concept of being completely here (in this world), being unselfishly active (Kaayaka) and realizing Him in every aspect of life and appreciating everything one has as His blessing. That is the only way to reach the Divine!

Let us heighten our awareness to make Him reside within us![/twocol_one_last]
